BUILDING FAMILIES

Connecting approved adoptive parents with children waiting for permanency

Building Families brings approved adoptive parents and Adoption Social Workers together to learn about children in New Brunswick who are waiting for an adoptive family.

During these virtual sessions, Adoption Social Workers from across the province share non-identifying profiles of children for whom Social Development is currently seeking an adoptive match.

Whether you have recently been approved and are waiting to be matched for the first time, or you are an experienced adoptive parent hoping to grow your family again, Building Families offers an opportunity to learn more about children who are currently waiting.

👥Who can attend?

Building Families sessions are open only to adoptive parents who have been approved by Social Development and are currently ready to be considered for a match.

If you have recently received your approval, please let Patricia know. We can add you to the Building Families invitation list, so you receive information about upcoming sessions.

October 2026 • Date to be announced

Building Families is held virtually on Zoom. Sessions are generally scheduled on a Wednesday around midday, although the exact time may vary.

Approved adoptive parents on our invitation list will receive the session details and Zoom registration link once the date is confirmed.

What to expect

Building Families is a small, interactive virtual session designed to give approved adoptive parents an opportunity to hear directly from the Social Workers who know the children being profiled.

Social Workers will share non-identifying information about each child, including information that may help prospective parents consider whether there could be a potential fit for their family. Participants will also have an opportunity to ask questions.

Important to know

💻_Join from a private location
____Building Families takes place live on Zoom. Please join from a private location where information about the children cannot be overheard by others.

🎥_Keep your camera on
____For privacy and security, cameras must remain on during the session. This helps us confirm that only registered participants are attending and ____that everyone is joining from an appropriate private setting.

💬_Questions are welcome
____You can ask questions during the session or follow up with the appropriate Social Worker afterwards.

🔒_Children's privacy comes first
____Information shared during Building Families is confidential and must not be shared outside the session.

📝_Bring a pen and paper
____Printed profiles are not distributed during the presentation. We recommend having a pen and paper ready to take notes.
____Follow-up information can be provided after the session as appropriate.

👥_Attending with a co-parent?
____You're welcome to attend together using the same device. If you will be joining from separate devices or locations, each person must register ____individually so we know who will be attending the session.

After the session

Following the session, participants will receive information to help them follow up with the appropriate Adoption Social Worker about a child they would like to learn more about.

Attending Building Families does not guarantee a match. Matching decisions remain with Social Development and are based on the individual needs of each child and the families being considered.
